Wir
Odysseus!
Video Installation

“An odyssey in five pictures. Tell me, Muse, that man, the man of many talents. He shifted away many times since he destroyed Troy’s sacred castle.”

Thus begins the oldest novel in western history. This question about the name shows us a search for identity, a development through many stages, five of which have been selected as examples for the performance:

1. the ingenious warrior

2. the tolerant refugee

3. the enlightened tourist

4. the knowledgeable priest

5. the distant scientist

So we ask in our performance: What is going wrong? What is the root of his failure? It is no coincidence that we seek to find out by means of movement. Conscious movement leads us directly to ourselves. Exercise not only makes us self-confident and strong, but also teaches us to understand and accept ourselves and thus also others. At the same time, we can only see ourselves as a whole through others. This reciprocity, which is already inherent in the term respect (mirroring back), could be a tool for overcoming the driven nature and violence. Perhaps we can use our performance to encourage people to ask themselves: How much of Odysseus are we?
